Earthquake

An earthquake is the result of a sudden release of stored energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes are accordingly measured with a seismometer, commonly known as a seismograph. The magnitude of an earthquake is conventionally reported using the Richter scale (with magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes being hard to notice and magnitude 7 causing serious damage over large areas). For example, the earthquakes that occurs in Sumatra recently has a magnitude of 7.9 Richter scale. It causes some houses to crumble and it also damaged large areas.

At the Earth's surface, earthquakes may manifest themselves by a shaking or displacement of the ground. Sometimes, they cause tsunamis, which may lead to loss of life and destruction of property. An earthquake is caused by tectonic plates getting stuck and putting a strain on the ground. The strain becomes so great that rocks give way by breaking and sliding along fault planes.

Earthquakes may occur naturally or as a result of human activities. Smaller earthquakes can also be caused by volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear experiments.

TRAFFIC JAM IN INDONESIA…

Traffic jam in big cities in Indonesia is an inconvenient problem that disturbs people’s daily activities. In Indonesia, it’s caused by several reasons. The main reason is the huge volume of vehicles on the road (as Yamaha, Toyota, Honda, etc always produce vehicles in periodical time) causing traffic jam if it isn’t balanced with the road capacity, or even if the condition of the road isn’t well anymore. Usually people prefer to use their personal vehicle rather than using public transportation. People thought that using public transportation in Indonesia isn’t as comfort as using personal vehicle. And also, some people don’t want to take a risk with gangster at public transportation. That’s why, traffic jam problem should be solved so that people won’t become inconvenient anymore.

GLOBAL WARMING : CAUSES AND EFFECTS

Global warming, it’s a typical global phenomena that has been peoples concern for years. Global Warming is caused by many things. The causes are split up into two groups, man-made causes, and natural causes. Man-made causes probably do the most damage. There are many man-made causes. Pollution is one of the biggest man-made problems. Pollution comes in many shapes and sizes. Burning fossil fuels is one thing that causes pollution. When fossil fuels are burned they give off a green house gas called CO2. Another major man-made cause of Global Warming is population. More people means more food, more methods of transportation, and that means more methane because there will be more burning of fossil fuels, and more agriculture. While natural causes are the causes that were created by nature. One natural cause is a release of methane gas from arctic tundra and wetlands. Methane is a greenhouse gas that traps heat in the earth's atmosphere.

In the other side, there are many great effects of global warming. Increase of temperature on the earth is one of the global warming effects. Increasing global temperatures are causing a broad range of changes. Sea levels are rising due to thermal expansion of the ocean, in addition to melting of land ice. Changes in temperature also change precipitation patterns that will increase the frequency, duration, and intensity of other extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, and tornadoes. Other effects of global warming include higher or lower agricultural yields, further glacial retreat, reduced summer stream flows, species extinctions.

Based on the explanation above, we’ve known about the effects of global warming. Therefore, as the young generation we must try to decrease the effects from the least thing that we can do. For example, we can minimize the use of air conditioner, perfume, and many other things that using fossil fuels. So, let’s start to save the earth from now on!

Water

One of important needs of human is water. Water is a very important need for the human life because in daily life, everybody needs clean water for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing, and others. The sources of clean water are limited because there are a lot of water's sources which have been polluted so that it's necessary to do the water treatment process in order to fulfill the quality of clean water. Water which comes from ground and surface has to pass the water treatment process such as separation and purification so that it can be distributed to the people for the daily need.
